Hey. Welcome back to Song Of The Day. Today we’re going to be hearing from an artist who, to say the least, is a far cry from Buffalo Springfield.
Buck 65 has been doing his thing in the Canadian hip-hop underground since the early 90's, although most Canadian, and all mainstream audiences wouldn’t know it. I only discovered him myself when I asked an ex coworker, who’s into the most obscure shit out there, for some listening advice.
“Have you heard of Buck 65. Check out Wicked and Weird and get back to me.”
Well I did, and I liked what I heard. Wicked and weird, I’m a rat-fish tryna practice doin’ back flips on ya mattress. I mean, come on.
So I did the minimum amount of digging and found a compilation album mostly comprised of previously released tracks, rarities and B-sides that he released in 2005 in an attempt to appeal to American audiences. It ultimately failed, but on it was an acoustic version of Centaur, a song he released almost a decade earlier. One listen and I was hooked. Hopefully you’ll be, too. Or not. What’s it to me, right?
Anyway, This Right Here Is Buck 65.
People are afraid of me but act like they love me
Feast your eyes upon my nudity
I am Beauty and the Beast
I have plenty to say
But nobody listens because my clock is so clean
The hour hand is missing
